It’s that time of year again

Get ready to program your DVRs! The Fall TV season is just around the corner and everyone is asking for premiere dates. So, without further ado, here is your requested list of new and returning TV geek- and genre-friendly shows, which a few other shows thrown in for good measure.

This list of fall and midseason shows is sorted by premiere date:

Date Show Network New? Notes
FALL
Aug. 16 Weeds Showtime No Happy birthday to me! The quirky and flawed Botwin family is back this next Monday with season 6 of Weeds. The Botwins are on the run after the unfortunate circumstances of last season. It should prove to be just as funny and irreverent as we expect.
Aug. 25 Ghost Hunters Syfy No Jay, Grant, and the rest of the TAPS team are back at 9 p.m. for another season of searching out things that go bump in the night. You know I’m down.
Sept. 9 The Vampire Diaries The CW No God help us all but Vampire Diaries is returning Thursday nights at 8 p.m. Several of my friends watch it but I just couldn’t get into it. I guess I’ll have to give it another chance at some point.
Sept. 9 Nikita The CW Yes I’m really anticipating this new show starring Maggie Q and Shane West on Thursdays at 9 p.m.. I saw the premiere at Comic-Con and was sold, despite having mucho doubts about another reboot of the Nikita franchise. It’s worth a watch, folks.
Sept. 9 Destination Truth Syfy No For reasons I can’t quite explain, I’m totally addicted to this show that follows a team of researchers across the globe to search out, well, the truth, in claims of the paranormal. Host Josh Gates and his team searches for crypozoological creatures mostly but there’s a few times they’ve gone old-fashioned ghost hunting. Check it out. There are full episodes on Syfy.com. You should also check out the new show airing currently Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files on Thursdays at 10 p.m. with Destination Truth alum Jael. Fact or Faked is sort of a Mythbusters meets X-Files thing. It’s just as addicting.
Sept. 20 House FOX No Gregory House and his team of diagnosing geniuses return on Monday nights at 8 p.m.
Sept. 20 Chuck NBC No Chuck is finally getting its Fall time-slot back, Mondays at 8 p.m. Can’t wait to meet Chuck’s mom!
Sept. 20 The Event NBC Yes NBC’s new show The Event will be following Chuck at 9 p.m. on Mondays. I’ve heard talk that this “conspiracy thriller” could be the next Lost but we’ll have to wait and see.
Sept. 20 Chase NBC Yes NBC’s has another new show about US Marshals called Chase which will follow The Event at 10 p.m. Looks like an In Plain Sight knock off to me. Not sure if I’ll be catching this one or not. It will have to be on Hulu if I do watch it. Nathan Fillion and Alex O’Lauglin trump anyone.
Sept. 20 Castle ABC No Nathan Fillion returns as mystery writer Rick Castle at 10 p.m. Set your DVRs folks, it’s definitely worth it; not just for Nate but also for Stana Katic and her teammates Jon Huertas and Seamus Dever.
Sept. 20 Hawaii Five 0 ABC Yes Anytime you hear that a favorite old show is going to be remade you automatically cringe. But with a cast like Alex O’Laughlin (Moonlight), Daniel Dae Kim (Lost), Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica) and Scott Caan (Entourage) it’s entirely possible this show will be fairly rockin’. I’ve already seen a sneak peek of the title sequence and that alone makes me want to watch.
Sept. 23 Bones FOX No Bones returns on Thursdays at 8 p.m. I’m wondering how they’re going to handle all of the intimacy stuff between Bones and Booth–real or imagined it changes the dynamic for sure!
Sept. 23 Fringe FOX No Fringe returns Thursday nights at 9 p.m.
Sept. 24 The Good Guys FOX No This quirky buddy cop show starring Colin Hanks and Bradley Whitford returns in September. Once again this show has been moved to the death slot: Fridays at 9 p.m.
Sept. 28 No Ordinary Family ABC Yes I got to see a preview of this superhero family dramedy and I’m really looking forward to it. Besides, I have to support my girl Julie Benz! Tune in Tuesdays at 8 p.m.
Sept. 23 The Big Bang Theory CBS No My favorite geeks are back! The Big Bang Theory is on the move again to a new date and time Thursdays at 8 p.m.
Sept. 23 $#*! My Dad Says CBS Yes I think this is the first time a show has been created from a book that was a compilation of Tweets. The ever popular Twitter feed @shitmydadsays has spawned this new show starring none other than William Shatner. I think that in and of itself will be entertaining. $#*! My Dad Says follows The Big Bang Theory on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m.
Sept. 23 Grey’s Anatomy ABC No Another crazy cliff hanger last season will keep me tuning in even though this show airs in the coveted 9 p.m. slot on Thursdays. There’s always Hulu!
Sept. 23 The Mentalist CBS No The show the writers of Psych love to poke fun at returns Thursday nights at 10 p.m.
Sept. 24 Smallville The CW No Clark Kent and the gang return at 8 p.m. on Friday nights for their final season complete with a new villain and the intro of the famous Superman suit. W00t!
Sept. 24 Supernatural The CW No Apparently Eric Kripke got the message because we squeezed another season of The Winchester brothers out of him! The boys are moving to Fridays at 9 p.m. to reunite with their former lead-in, Smallville. Let’s hope new show runner Sera Gamble can keep the magic alive for at least one more season.
Sept. 25 Medium CBS No Medium is moving to Friday nights at 8 p.m. but apparently the premiere is listed on Saturday the 25th. Not sure what that’s about. I don’t watch this show but I know it’s popular so I offer the info for your convenience.
Sept. 26 Dexter Showtime No Dexter’s back and now he’s struggling not only with his dark passenger but the stresses of being a single dad to young Harrison and Rita’s kids. Expect loads of new-found angst on both sides of the coin.
Oct. 1 Human Target FOX No I can’t wait for Human Target to return! I think Fox pushed the premiere date forward a week simply because they know that. I’m glad that Fox is giving this show another chance. Unfortunately, Fox made the brilliant decision to move it to the day where good shows go to die, Fridays at 8 p.m.
October Stargate Universe Syfy No This show gets a lot of flak but I like it. I think it’s mostly because of David Blue’s awesome portrayal of the every-geek Eli. Whatever it is, I keep watching. No official date but at least we got a month out of Syfy, which is more than we usually get for Fall returns. I’ll let you know when the official date is announced. Incidentally, look for the SGU marathon happening September 28th starting at 8 a.m.
November V ABC No V will return at 8 p.m. just not sure on the day yet. I’ll let you know when it’s announced.
MIDSEASON
January Californication Showtime No David Duchovny returns as hedonistic writer Hank Moody at 10 p.m.
January Caprica Syfy No The Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica will be returning in January with the back half of season 1, or as they like to call it, season 1.5. You can catch up with the show on Syfy.com which is what I’ll be doing. I watched the first four and got annoyed with it. Everyone tells me it got better after that. We shall see!

That should help everyone get organized. Type at you again soon!

…and this concludes our coverage of Comic-Con 2010

Well, I finally finished posting my photos from the show. The Saturday, Sunday, and General Photos are now online. I hope you enjoy looking at them and reading my spoiler laden captions. The spoilers aren’t that huge. I’m very anti-spoiler and I don’t feel harmed in any way by the information I gleaned from my hours stuck in ballrooms last week.

With that I will leave you for the night. I have sooo much TV watching to catch up on it’s ridiculous. Hopefully I can watch something tonight before having to crawl off to bed.

Type at you soon!

Life is messy…

At least that’s how my life was yesterday. I’m a bit behind on posting my photos as you probably can tell. I was sidetracked yesterday by an emergency dog bath incident. I won’t go into the gory details but suffice it say it was a smelly and sticky situation that required immediate bathing, fur cutting, and floor cleaning. I’m sure you get the picture.

Giving my dog a bath is always an ordeal. It’s something akin to wrestling an angry wombat armed only with some water and your wits. Like Simon Helberg’s character, Moist says, the most water can do is make someone uncomfortable and want to take a shower. It definitely made me take a shower after the ordeal.

So, consequently my Friday photos were not posted yesterday but they are online tonight. You can click here to see them. I will continue with posting more photos as time permits. It’s rather time consuming to type up all the captions and such. Oy vey, I’m totally whining about captions; I can’t believe I used to do this for a living. Of course I didn’t work all day and come home to slave over a hot keyboard for hours to get photos posted either. I think some whining is allowed in this case. I didn’t even watch any TV tonight for Pete’s sake!

Type-atcha soon, people of the Interwebs!

I survived Comic-Con

Well, I made it out of the con unscathed. I’m exhausted but at least I have all of my limbs; it was touch and go there for a while. I don’t think I’ve been pushed and shoved so much in my life. It sucks to be low to ground and out of everyone’s field of vision.

So, I’ve edited all my photos but only had time to post the Thursday photos with captions and juicy semi-spoilery tidbits. You can see the photos here. I’ll post more tomorrow, so be on the lookout.

Right now, I need sleep and I really want to watch last night’s “True Blood”. Can you blame me?

Happy Saturday Night

Things are going well at Comic-Con, at least for me. That guy that got stabbed in the face with a pen in Hall H during the Captain America panel is probably not in agreement. I wasn’t there but I talked to a few people that were and apparently it was all over an arguement that started before the panel and escalated in a brawl over a seat. Seriously, people. That hall seats 6500, there were other seats to be had and now that guy will spend the rest of the con in the slammer. Not a smart move.

I do have lots and lots of photos but I’m honestly too tired to post any tonight. I’m hoping I’ll have sometime tomorrow, er, make that tonight as its after midnight when I’m writing this.

I will drop some info on you though. ***SPOILER ALERT ***

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

USA Executive Jeff Wachtel announced there will be a Burn Notice prequel starring and produced by Bruce Campbell detailing Sam Axe’s last mission and explaining how he came to be in Miami.

Psych will have a ton of great guest stars this season including Freddie Prinze, Jr., Adam Rodriguez, William DeVane, Carl Weathers, Nestor Carbonell, Chi McBride, Franco Potente, and C. Thomas Howell. During the panel Curt Smith from Tears For Fears sang “Shout” with Dulé Hill and James Roday.

The best overall panel (so far) has been The Big Bang Theory, hands down. Wil Wheaton led a sing-along of the show’s theme song with performers Bare Naked Ladies. Lots of things were discovered during the panel, like Kaley Cuoco being the “geekiest cast member” according to Wheaton, that Chuck Lorre  co-wrote the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song, and that there won’t be a Comic-Con episode because the show is “an indoor cat” according to Chuck Lorre.

One of the biggest announcements was who will be playing Chuck Bartowski’s mom next season: none-other than Linda Hamilton. Nothing makes a geek happier to find out that Sarah Conner is playing your mom and Zach Levi (and the rest of the cast and crew) seemed stoked.

James Callis is sticking around for the rest of the season of Eureka. I’m happy about that! The show runners emphasized that they don’t want to change the world back, which personally I’m glad. I love the changes except one. It appears from the clip we saw that Zane is not only not with Jo but he’s now dating Zoe! Sort of creepy. We’ll have to see how that goes.

Major changes for Human Target. They have a new show  runner borrowed from Chuck: Matthew Miller. Indira Varma (you may know her from HBO’s Rome) will be joining the cast as a series regular who buys the organization and becomes the boss. One other note of interest Chi McBride does a hilarious impersonation of William Shatner.

The premier of Nikita starring Maggie Q and Shane West was surprising good. I will definitely be watching that show!

Oh, and during dinner my friend Rani and I saw Neil Grayston of Eureka walk by. About 20 minutes later Josh Gates of Destination Truth and Colin Ferguson of Eureka came walking the other way. Colin was nice enough to say “Hi” to us which was a moment of geek happiness for me (and Rani too!)

Those are just some of the highlights, but seriously, I need to go to bed. I have to get up in the morning and do it all over again. The Smallville and Supernatural panels are tomorrow and I can’t miss that!

Comic-Con Preview

Well, I survived Preview Night at Comic-Con. Let me tell you, my feet are tired as is the rest of me. However, I’m begging off falling into my hotel bed in utter exhaustion to take some time and post some photos. You can view them here. I’ll post some more tomorrow if I’m not dead tired after the BBC America screenings.

Enjoy!

Best laid plans of, well… you know.

The Graduate
Hola denizens of the Interwebs!

It’s been a VERY long time since I’ve written in my blog. In my defense, I have been a bit busy with graduate school. Completing my Master’s degree sort of highjacked my life for a time. I found it too difficult to keep up with writing when I was expected to produce 5-15 page papers nearly every week. I am happy to say that I’m now the proud recipient of a Masters in Information Systems and can finally get on with my life. Now I’m just trying to catch up with all those things I couldn’t do when I was in school. I’m surprised I was able to go to work everyday, complete my homework, and actually sleep.

Graduation was spectacular! I’m glad I took the time to go to Phoenix and attend. Dr. Condoleezza Rice spoke at my graduation. How cool is that? I also got the chance to spend time with a classmate that attended each of my online classes with me. It’s a very modern thing to go to school with someone and not meet them until graduation. Ain’t technology grand?

I feel as if time has gotten away from me once again. The annual geek pilgrimage to San Diego known as Comic-Con starts in but a few days. I am as prepared as possible for the con and can’t wait to spend hours in line just for the chance to hear the inside scoop. This time I’m taking notes in addition to copious amounts of photos and will be posting them here once again for your viewing pleasure.

I’ve decided to skip the preview of “Nikita” on Wednesday night to do the unthinkable; this time I’m going to spend more than 15 catch-as-catch-can minutes on the show floor. I have my map marked with the booths I want to visit and everything, like a proper convention attendee who has OCD should. I will see the premiere of Nikita at the panel on Saturday. I’ll let you know how it is.

On another note, I’m composing this blog post in Dreamweaver Adobe Creative Suite 5. It’s the first time I’ve really gotten the change to use it. The new Photoshop rocks too.

That’s all for today. I have packing to do!

Fall TV, how do I love thee?

Well, the fall TV season is underway and it couldn’t have come soon enough. I like that there are great, evocative summer programs on USA, HBO and Showtime but their seasons are just too short, leaving me wanting more.

This Monday “Heroes”, “House”, “The Big Bang Theory” and “Castle” will all be back with new episodes. “Heroes” and “House” are competing with two-hour season premieres during the 8 to 10 p.m. hours, which leaves me unable to watch “Big Bang Theory” at 9:30. I hate the fact that my DVR can only record two things at a time. I wish they would break that barrier! Good thing that CBS usually posts their episodes online so I should be able to catch it. I haven’t started watching season one and two of Big Bang but I will shortly. I’m really excited to finally get my Nathan Fillion fix satisfied when “Castle” returns at 10 p.m. Monday. I’m just sad that I can’t say the same thing about his “Firefly” co-star Adam Baldwin. Mondays will not be the same without “Chuck”. No official word yet on Chuck’s return but I’ll keep you posted.

So last Thursday I gave “The Vampire Diaries” another chance and I was still left with the feeling that it’s not up to snuff. Maybe I’m not the demographic they’re hoping for or maybe it’s just that in comparison to “True Blood” the show pales severely. Either way, I don’t think I’m going to waste my time on it. There are plenty of other things to watch like “Bones” which had a good start for the season, in my opinion.

*SPOILER ALERT*

If you haven’t seen this past Thursday’s “Fringe” premiere or “Supernatural” skip this paragraph. I wanted to say that I really enjoyed the “Fringe” premiere. I liked how they gave out two shouts to “The X-Files”. There was a scene where the bad guy was in the next victims apartment and an episode of “The X-Files” was showing on the TV. The closed session congressional committee also mentioned “X” division in conjunction with the Fringe division. I thought it was a nice touch. I’m sad about Charlie but I’ve been waiting to see how they were going to kill off that character for some time now. I had read an article somewhere with Kirk Acevedo stating his days were numbered on the show so I knew it was coming, I just didn’t know how or when. It was nicely done but I’m still sad that Kirk will be leaving. As for “Supernatural”, why are they splitting the boys up? I was glad to see Rufus, Jo and Ellen back in the fight but I didn’t expect Sam to leave the lifestyle as it were. I’m sure that Kripke and company have something up their sleeves. We get to see Lucifer in all his “glory” next week so be sure to tune in.

*END SPOILERS*

I haven’t watched “Dollhouse” yet because I went to bed early. Don’t judge me, I was tired. Besides, it’s sitting on my DVR patiently waiting for me. I’ll let you know my opinion later.

For those of my peeps who live in eastern Washington, please stay safe. There is an escaped schizophrenic murderer roaming the land. I’m glad my mom is down in the land of sand and sun of Yuma now. One thing less to worry about.

A little mood music, maestro

G Tom Mac has revamped his classic vampire tune, “Cry Little Sister” from 80s movie The Lost Boys to fit the swampy, bluesy world of “True Blood“. I’m not ashamed to say I have the original 80s version on my iPod and I can’t wait until this version is available for download on iTunes (contrary to what the credits of the video say it’s not yet posted, I checked).

So to get you in the mood for the season 2 finale of “True Blood” enjoy the video that features scenes from the show!

Fall has officially begun

Sorry I haven’t been posting regularly. I’ve been super busy with school and work, and to top it all off I’ve had a headache for two weeks. When your head hurts the last thing you want to do is be on the computer longer than necessary. I bit the bullet so to speak and sought professional medical help this afternoon. I am always reluctant to go to the doctor unless I absolutely can’t take care of it myself. I don’t like using medication unless absolutely necessary. That being said, as I am now armed with prescription pharmaceuticals I feel confident my “tension headache” will soon be history. *big sigh of relief*

I just wanted to remind everyone that The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural start tonight on the CW. I trust you’ve already set your DVRs and prepared to settle in for a two hour horror fest (well at least 1 hour of scariness anyway). Can’t wait to see what happens on Supernatural! With an episode title like “Sympathy for the Devil” you know it’s going to be awesome.

Did anyone else have Twitter woes this week? My account was suspended, along with many others, because of some spam cloud attack; I was one of the attackees not the attacker. It was very disconcerting to be cut off from my True Blood updates so close to the season 2 finale this Sunday. The suspension was lifted a few hours after I filed a dispute, so I guess that was good. All of the people I was following now think I’m re-following them or something but again, it’s all good. I unlocked my account so if any of my readers here want to follow me you can reach me on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/mac_jedi. Because of my guilty pleasure True Blood role players addiction I tend to Tweet more often than I blog now. I’ll try to be better with the blogging.

I missed posting yesterday on the 9-9-09 as I intended because I was feeling mucho crappy, but I wanted to post a link to a photo of Las Vegas Mayor Goodman and his wife renewing their on the momentous date courtesy of Vegas.com. Ain’t love grand?
