Get ready to program your DVRs! The Fall TV season is just around the corner and everyone is asking for premiere dates. So, without further ado, here is your requested list of new and returning TV geek- and genre-friendly shows, which a few other shows thrown in for good measure.
This list of fall and midseason shows is sorted by premiere date:
| Date | Show | Network | New? | Notes |
| FALL | ||||
| Aug. 16 | Weeds | Showtime | No | Happy birthday to me! The quirky and flawed Botwin family is back this next Monday with season 6 of Weeds. The Botwins are on the run after the unfortunate circumstances of last season. It should prove to be just as funny and irreverent as we expect. |
| Aug. 25 | Ghost Hunters | Syfy | No | Jay, Grant, and the rest of the TAPS team are back at 9 p.m. for another season of searching out things that go bump in the night. You know I’m down. |
| Sept. 9 | The Vampire Diaries | The CW | No | God help us all but Vampire Diaries is returning Thursday nights at 8 p.m. Several of my friends watch it but I just couldn’t get into it. I guess I’ll have to give it another chance at some point. |
| Sept. 9 | Nikita | The CW | Yes | I’m really anticipating this new show starring Maggie Q and Shane West on Thursdays at 9 p.m.. I saw the premiere at Comic-Con and was sold, despite having mucho doubts about another reboot of the Nikita franchise. It’s worth a watch, folks. |
| Sept. 9 | Destination Truth | Syfy | No | For reasons I can’t quite explain, I’m totally addicted to this show that follows a team of researchers across the globe to search out, well, the truth, in claims of the paranormal. Host Josh Gates and his team searches for crypozoological creatures mostly but there’s a few times they’ve gone old-fashioned ghost hunting. Check it out. There are full episodes on Syfy.com. You should also check out the new show airing currently Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files on Thursdays at 10 p.m. with Destination Truth alum Jael. Fact or Faked is sort of a Mythbusters meets X-Files thing. It’s just as addicting. |
| Sept. 20 | House | FOX | No | Gregory House and his team of diagnosing geniuses return on Monday nights at 8 p.m. |
| Sept. 20 | Chuck | NBC | No | Chuck is finally getting its Fall time-slot back, Mondays at 8 p.m. Can’t wait to meet Chuck’s mom! |
| Sept. 20 | The Event | NBC | Yes | NBC’s new show The Event will be following Chuck at 9 p.m. on Mondays. I’ve heard talk that this “conspiracy thriller” could be the next Lost but we’ll have to wait and see. |
| Sept. 20 | Chase | NBC | Yes | NBC’s has another new show about US Marshals called Chase which will follow The Event at 10 p.m. Looks like an In Plain Sight knock off to me. Not sure if I’ll be catching this one or not. It will have to be on Hulu if I do watch it. Nathan Fillion and Alex O’Lauglin trump anyone. |
| Sept. 20 | Castle | ABC | No | Nathan Fillion returns as mystery writer Rick Castle at 10 p.m. Set your DVRs folks, it’s definitely worth it; not just for Nate but also for Stana Katic and her teammates Jon Huertas and Seamus Dever. |
| Sept. 20 | Hawaii Five 0 | ABC | Yes | Anytime you hear that a favorite old show is going to be remade you automatically cringe. But with a cast like Alex O’Laughlin (Moonlight), Daniel Dae Kim (Lost), Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica) and Scott Caan (Entourage) it’s entirely possible this show will be fairly rockin’. I’ve already seen a sneak peek of the title sequence and that alone makes me want to watch. |
| Sept. 23 | Bones | FOX | No | Bones returns on Thursdays at 8 p.m. I’m wondering how they’re going to handle all of the intimacy stuff between Bones and Booth–real or imagined it changes the dynamic for sure! |
| Sept. 23 | Fringe | FOX | No | Fringe returns Thursday nights at 9 p.m. |
| Sept. 24 | The Good Guys | FOX | No | This quirky buddy cop show starring Colin Hanks and Bradley Whitford returns in September. Once again this show has been moved to the death slot: Fridays at 9 p.m. |
| Sept. 28 | No Ordinary Family | ABC | Yes | I got to see a preview of this superhero family dramedy and I’m really looking forward to it. Besides, I have to support my girl Julie Benz! Tune in Tuesdays at 8 p.m. |
| Sept. 23 | The Big Bang Theory | CBS | No | My favorite geeks are back! The Big Bang Theory is on the move again to a new date and time Thursdays at 8 p.m. |
| Sept. 23 | $#*! My Dad Says | CBS | Yes | I think this is the first time a show has been created from a book that was a compilation of Tweets. The ever popular Twitter feed @shitmydadsays has spawned this new show starring none other than William Shatner. I think that in and of itself will be entertaining. $#*! My Dad Says follows The Big Bang Theory on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. |
| Sept. 23 | Grey’s Anatomy | ABC | No | Another crazy cliff hanger last season will keep me tuning in even though this show airs in the coveted 9 p.m. slot on Thursdays. There’s always Hulu! |
| Sept. 23 | The Mentalist | CBS | No | The show the writers of Psych love to poke fun at returns Thursday nights at 10 p.m. |
| Sept. 24 | Smallville | The CW | No | Clark Kent and the gang return at 8 p.m. on Friday nights for their final season complete with a new villain and the intro of the famous Superman suit. W00t! |
| Sept. 24 | Supernatural | The CW | No | Apparently Eric Kripke got the message because we squeezed another season of The Winchester brothers out of him! The boys are moving to Fridays at 9 p.m. to reunite with their former lead-in, Smallville. Let’s hope new show runner Sera Gamble can keep the magic alive for at least one more season. |
| Sept. 25 | Medium | CBS | No | Medium is moving to Friday nights at 8 p.m. but apparently the premiere is listed on Saturday the 25th. Not sure what that’s about. I don’t watch this show but I know it’s popular so I offer the info for your convenience. |
| Sept. 26 | Dexter | Showtime | No | Dexter’s back and now he’s struggling not only with his dark passenger but the stresses of being a single dad to young Harrison and Rita’s kids. Expect loads of new-found angst on both sides of the coin. |
| Oct. 1 | Human Target | FOX | No | I can’t wait for Human Target to return! I think Fox pushed the premiere date forward a week simply because they know that. I’m glad that Fox is giving this show another chance. Unfortunately, Fox made the brilliant decision to move it to the day where good shows go to die, Fridays at 8 p.m. |
| October | Stargate Universe | Syfy | No | This show gets a lot of flak but I like it. I think it’s mostly because of David Blue’s awesome portrayal of the every-geek Eli. Whatever it is, I keep watching. No official date but at least we got a month out of Syfy, which is more than we usually get for Fall returns. I’ll let you know when the official date is announced. Incidentally, look for the SGU marathon happening September 28th starting at 8 a.m. |
| November | V | ABC | No | V will return at 8 p.m. just not sure on the day yet. I’ll let you know when it’s announced. |
| MIDSEASON | ||||
| January | Californication | Showtime | No | David Duchovny returns as hedonistic writer Hank Moody at 10 p.m. |
| January | Caprica | Syfy | No | The Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica will be returning in January with the back half of season 1, or as they like to call it, season 1.5. You can catch up with the show on Syfy.com which is what I’ll be doing. I watched the first four and got annoyed with it. Everyone tells me it got better after that. We shall see! |
That should help everyone get organized. Type at you again soon!

Well, the fall TV season is underway and it couldn’t have come soon enough. I like that there are great, evocative summer programs on USA, HBO and Showtime but their seasons are just too short, leaving me wanting more.
This Monday “Heroes”, “House”, “The Big Bang Theory” and “Castle” will all be back with new episodes. “Heroes” and “House” are competing with two-hour season premieres during the 8 to 10 p.m. hours, which leaves me unable to watch “Big Bang Theory” at 9:30. I hate the fact that my DVR can only record two things at a time. I wish they would break that barrier! Good thing that CBS usually posts their episodes online so I should be able to catch it. I haven’t started watching season one and two of Big Bang but I will shortly. I’m really excited to finally get my Nathan Fillion fix satisfied when “Castle” returns at 10 p.m. Monday. I’m just sad that I can’t say the same thing about his “Firefly” co-star Adam Baldwin. Mondays will not be the same without “Chuck”. No official word yet on Chuck’s return but I’ll keep you posted.
So last Thursday I gave “The Vampire Diaries” another chance and I was still left with the feeling that it’s not up to snuff. Maybe I’m not the demographic they’re hoping for or maybe it’s just that in comparison to “True Blood” the show pales severely. Either way, I don’t think I’m going to waste my time on it. There are plenty of other things to watch like “Bones” which had a good start for the season, in my opinion.
*SPOILER ALERT*
If you haven’t seen this past Thursday’s “Fringe” premiere or “Supernatural” skip this paragraph. I wanted to say that I really enjoyed the “Fringe” premiere. I liked how they gave out two shouts to “The X-Files”. There was a scene where the bad guy was in the next victims apartment and an episode of “The X-Files” was showing on the TV. The closed session congressional committee also mentioned “X” division in conjunction with the Fringe division. I thought it was a nice touch. I’m sad about Charlie but I’ve been waiting to see how they were going to kill off that character for some time now. I had read an article somewhere with Kirk Acevedo stating his days were numbered on the show so I knew it was coming, I just didn’t know how or when. It was nicely done but I’m still sad that Kirk will be leaving. As for “Supernatural”, why are they splitting the boys up? I was glad to see Rufus, Jo and Ellen back in the fight but I didn’t expect Sam to leave the lifestyle as it were. I’m sure that Kripke and company have something up their sleeves. We get to see Lucifer in all his “glory” next week so be sure to tune in.
*END SPOILERS*
I haven’t watched “Dollhouse” yet because I went to bed early. Don’t judge me, I was tired. Besides, it’s sitting on my DVR patiently waiting for me. I’ll let you know my opinion later.
For those of my peeps who live in eastern Washington, please stay safe. There is an escaped schizophrenic murderer roaming the land. I’m glad my mom is down in the land of sand and sun of Yuma now. One thing less to worry about.

G Tom Mac has revamped his classic vampire tune, “Cry Little Sister” from 80s movie The Lost Boys to fit the swampy, bluesy world of “True Blood“. I’m not ashamed to say I have the original 80s version on my iPod and I can’t wait until this version is available for download on iTunes (contrary to what the credits of the video say it’s not yet posted, I checked).
So to get you in the mood for the season 2 finale of “True Blood” enjoy the video that features scenes from the show!

Sorry I haven’t been posting regularly. I’ve been super busy with school and work, and to top it all off I’ve had a headache for two weeks. When your head hurts the last thing you want to do is be on the computer longer than necessary. I bit the bullet so to speak and sought professional medical help this afternoon. I am always reluctant to go to the doctor unless I absolutely can’t take care of it myself. I don’t like using medication unless absolutely necessary. That being said, as I am now armed with prescription pharmaceuticals I feel confident my “tension headache” will soon be history. *big sigh of relief*
I just wanted to remind everyone that The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural start tonight on the CW. I trust you’ve already set your DVRs and prepared to settle in for a two hour horror fest (well at least 1 hour of scariness anyway). Can’t wait to see what happens on Supernatural! With an episode title like “Sympathy for the Devil” you know it’s going to be awesome.
Did anyone else have Twitter woes this week? My account was suspended, along with many others, because of some spam cloud attack; I was one of the attackees not the attacker. It was very disconcerting to be cut off from my True Blood updates so close to the season 2 finale this Sunday. The suspension was lifted a few hours after I filed a dispute, so I guess that was good. All of the people I was following now think I’m re-following them or something but again, it’s all good. I unlocked my account so if any of my readers here want to follow me you can reach me on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/mac_jedi. Because of my guilty pleasure True Blood role players addiction I tend to Tweet more often than I blog now. I’ll try to be better with the blogging.
I missed posting yesterday on the 9-9-09 as I intended because I was feeling mucho crappy, but I wanted to post a link to a photo of Las Vegas Mayor Goodman and his wife renewing their on the momentous date courtesy of Vegas.com. Ain’t love grand?

The site has moved so please update your bookmarks! All of my previous posts are here. I haven’t figured out how to move my subscribers over yet so you may have to reregister. I apologize for the inconvenience but I swear I won’t be changing my name again! I decided to go back to my maiden name, Wagner, hence the change. Let me tell you, it has been an expensive and time-consuming process but I feel positive about the future. It’s amazing how one little thing can change your perspective.
The inaugural post on this new site will be the TV schedule I promised you back in May.
Here is a list of the fall and midseason shows sorted by premiere date:
| Date | Show | Network | New? | Notes |
| FALL | ||||
| Sept. 10 | The Vampire Diaries | The CW | Yes | The preview I saw at Comic-Con didn’t bolster much hope for this show but I’ll give it another go. If you’re interested in a Twilight-meets-Gossip-Girl thing you may be more impressed than me. |
| Sept. 10 | Supernatural | The CW | No | The Winchester brothers are back in what may be their final season to battle Lucifer and, hopefully, help mankind survive Armageddon. Let’s boost those ratings so we can convince Eric Kripke we need a 6th season! |
| Sept. 17 | Bones | FOX | No | Bones returns on Thursdays at 8 p.m. I’m wondering how they’re going to handle all of the intimacy stuff between Bones and Booth–real or imagined it changes the dynamic for sure! |
| Sept. 17 | Fringe | FOX | No | Fringe moves to its new night, Thursday, at 9 p.m. I don’t know about you but I’ll have to catch this one on Hulu. Too many shows on Thursday at 9 p.m.! |
| Sept. 18 | Dollhouse | FOX | No | Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse got a reprieve and will premiere at 8 p.m. Like Joss says, they forgot to cancel his show. I for one am glad! If you haven’t seen the unaired episode “Epitaph One” I sincerely beg you to download it from iTunes or, better yet, buy the DVD set. It’s the best episode yet! |
| Sept. 21 | House | FOX | No | Gregory House and his team of diagnosing geniuses return with a two-hour premiere at 8 p.m. |
| Sept. 21 | Heroes | NBC | No | Heroes returns for a fourth season with a two-hour premiere at 8 p.m. Greg Grunberg who plays Matt Parkman assures us that the new season will return to character-based storytelling similar to season 1. |
| Sept. 21 | Castle | ABC | No | Nathan Fillion returns as mystery writer Rick Castle at 10 p.m. Set your DVRs folks, it’s definitely worth it. |
| Sept. 21 | The Big Bang Theory | CBS | No | Big Bang Theory is a new addition to the list. What can I say? They won me over at Comic-Con. The show moves to a new time at 9:30 p.m. |
| Sept. 23 | Eastwick | ABC | Yes | Based on the movie “The Witches of Eastwick” this little gem stars Rebecca Romijn and the steamy likes of Paul Gross. I’m definitely there! Set your DVRs folks because it starts at 10 p.m. |
| Sept. 24 | Flash Forward | ABC | Yes | What if you blacked out for over two minutes and saw what your life is like 6 months from now? I’m looking forward to finding out what happens in this show slated for Thursdays at 8 p.m. However, once again, there are too many shows in that timeslot I want to watch but that’s what Hulu was invented for. |
| Sept. 24 | Grey’s Anatomy | ABC | No | I am addicted to this show, possibly because Jeffrey Dean Morgan keeps showing up unexpectedly. There was one doozy of a cliff hanger last season so I’ll definitely be recording it. This one also airs in the coveted 9 p.m. slot on Thursdays and, I’m sorry ABC, but Supernatural takes precedent! |
| Sept. 24 | The Mentalist | CBS | No | The show the writers of Psych loves to poke fun at returns Thursday nights at 10 p.m. |
| Sept. 25 | The Ghost Whisperer | CBS | No | Moved to Friday nights at 8 p.m. Again, I don’t watch The Ghost Whisperer but I know it’s popular with the sci-fi crowd. |
| Sept. 25 | Medium | CBS | No | Medium jumps from FOX to CBS on Friday nights at 9 p.m. Again, I don’t watch this show but I know it’s popular so I offer the info for your convenience. |
| Sept. 25 | Smallville | The CW | No | Clark Kent and the gang return at 8 p.m. on a new night for what looks to be an awesome season chock full of the Justice League (or some semblance thereof) and General Zod! |
| Sept. 27 | Dexter | Showtime | No | It’s official! Season 4 of the show that chronicles the bloody life of everyone’s favorite serial killer starts at 9 p.m. Don’t forget, John Lithgow plays Dexter’s nemesis this season and it looks like it will be just as great as the previous seasons. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait. |
| Sept. 27 | Californication | Showtime | No | David Duchovny returns as hedonistic writer Hank Moody at 10 p.m. I don’t know how they’re going to top guest star Callum Keith Rennie of last season but I’ll sure tune in to find out. |
| October | White Collar | USA | Yes | While this is not a genre show per se, I’m going to check it out for two reasons: the cast and USA hasn’t steered me wrong thus far. Tim DeKay from HBO’s Carnivale and Matt Bomer from NBC’s Chuck star in this show about a master criminal who works with the FBI to catch slippery criminals. |
| Nov. 3 | V | ABC | Yes | Let me tell you that at 8 p.m. on this day, the world is going to stop for V. I’ve seen the pilot twice and I still want to see it again. I was an avid fan of the show when I was a kid and ABC has done the original proud with this reimagining. |
| MIDSEASON | ||||
| TBA | Chuck | NBC | No | Chuck will be back as a midseason replacement. A new show called “Trauma” (like we need another medical show, people) has taken Chuck’s timeslot after Heroes. The rumor is January or February but they’re hoping for earlier. |
| January | Lost | ABC | Yes | The final season of Lost will premiere midseason. Since Elisabeth Mitchell has moved over to V, I suppose we can figure out what happened to Juliet, but I’m wouldn’t miss the last season for the world! |
| January | Human Target | FOX | Yes | I can’t wait for Human Target! The pilot I saw at Comic-Con whet my appetite and I’m sure it will be a hit like Fringe. |
| January | Past Life | FOX | Yes | I haven’t heard much about this show but it does have an interesting premise. The show is based on the book “The Reincarnationist” by M.J. Rose and follows a psychiatrist that performs past-life regressions. Looks worth checking out. |
There you have it. Until next time we meet again on the Interwebs, my friends!

Imagine if you will that you have a blog and that you have every intention to write in said blog an overview of the Comic-Con convention in a timely fashion. Then imagine that, as John Lennon once said, life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans. I’ve been playing catch-up it seems and just didn’t have a chance to do what I said I was going to do. Please forgive me and keep the wet noodle whipping to a minimum. To satisfy your Comic-Con cravings here are links to videos so you can experience some of the panels yourself:
The wacky weather here in Nevada is making my sinuses freak out. Can you believe that it’s only 90 degrees right now? It’s late afternoon in August for Pete’s sake! What is this world coming to? First the weather the last few days has been spring-like at best, then Twitter and Facebook take a nose dive because of a Denial of Service attack on Thursday.
Oh, the humanity! I was very put out, by the way. I have developed a severe addiction to Twitter–I’m sure that I’m not alone. Hacker, you are very cruel indeed…at least leave me an alternative to Twitter such as Facebook if you’re going to take down the site. Twitter kind of freaked me out at first because it seems a bit like sanctioned cyberstalking. However, you get strangely dependent on these 140-character glimpses into the lives of celebrities and non-celebrities alike. Besides, it can be useful; I learn a lot from Twitter. For instance, I discovered they started construction on the Mafia museum here in Vegas on August 4, Apple alumni Guy Kawasaki always posts informative links from his website Alltop.com and I keep up with the creative geniuses of “Heroes”, “Castle”, “Psych”, and “Supernatural”.
Speaking of “Supernatural”, last but not least of my what’s-this-world-coming-to diatribe is the little kernel of knowledge iGoogle just dropped on me: Paris Hilton will be guest starring in episode 5 of season 5. I know she was in House of Wax with Jared Padelecki but, dude, come on! Do you have to ruin my favorite show with the Viscountess of Vapidness? Apparently, she’ll be playing a demon that takes on the form of Paris Hilton. Disturbing as that may seem, it could actually be funny. Dean would have soooo much material to work with.
Jumping back a bit…the season 4 premiere of “Psych” last night was great. Cary Elwes guest starred as a international art thief that Shawn and Gus run into on a ski trip to Whistler near Vancouver. At least the production didn’t have pretend they weren’t in British Columbia, a move that is both genious and cost-effective. I applaud you, USA Networks! Nothing like hearing Lassiter whine because he couldn’t bring his gun to the great white north. If you missed the premiere you can check it out online at USA’s web site.
Till next time!

Dude, I’m really tired. Comic-Con takes a lot out of you. I got back to Vegas about 2 p.m. today, picked up the dog from the baby-sitter (my sister) and came home. I sat and watched “True Blood” from last night and then hopped on the computer and edited and posted the Sunday photos to the Comic-Con page. You’re welcome!
I’m trying to load the video I took of the “Supernatural” panel but iPhoto is not cooperating. I may have to use a card reader for some reason. So those videos will be posted later this week.
In the meantime I offer two videos I posted to YouTube! from the 30 Years of Battlestar Galactica panel divided into two parts. A fan asks the panel why they decided to have the colonists land on New Caprica. One of the panelists discusses the genesis of the idea came from a previous incarnation of a Battlestar remake. It can get confusing so I thought I’d mention that.

So it is with everything including 4 day nerd fests like Comic-Con San Diego. The show closed today at 5 p.m. shortly after the last event, a screening of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” musical episode “Once More With Feeling”. This was the second year the event was held for charity and sponsored by my good friends at Whedonopolis and TheWB.com.
I had a great time at this years convention and plan on attending next year. As Bruce Campbell would say, but I digress.
I posted the photos from Saturday to the Comic-Con page. The captions for the photos have tidbits from the panels so they’re worth checking out for information. Sunday’s photos will follow tomorrow night after I make the trek back to Las Vegas. I also intend to do a wrap up of the event sometime next week so be on the lookout for that.
I can honestly say that I’m exhausted and looking forward to some sleep tonight!

I just posted a bunch of photos from the Thursday and Friday panels at Comic-Con 2009 complete with captions and info from the panels! Check out the page at http://blog.alexandriaharper.com/san-diego-comic-con-2009/.
I’ll post the photos from Friday (and possibly Saturday) by tomorrow. Tomorrow is the last day of the show and I have to say that while I enjoyed the panels thoroughly, I’ll be glad when it’s over. All good things must come to an end. It will be nice to get a full nights sleep, eat a real meal and have cell phone reception again.
Speaking of sleep…that’s where I’m heading off to. I have the CW’s Smallville and Supernatural panels first thing tomorrow morning. Tom Welling is going to be there for Smallville and they said at the Warner Brothers booth that it’s his first time at the convention. I wonder if he knows what he’s getting into?
Talk to you soon!

Good morning, visitors of the interwebs!
I’m proud to say I survived the first day of Comic-Con. It was touch and go for a while, let me tell you. First, the humidity was really messing with me when I got here. I don’t think I’ve ever been so dehydrated in my life. Like it says on my militant Camelbak water bottle, “Hydrate or Die!”
I was greeted by two of my colleagues just after I got in line to get my badge. Having an entourage waiting for you is a very nice thing. Thank you ladies! They got me to my destination, which turned out to be the wrong one. Note to self: must consult itinerary more often when you’re having dehydration issues. It messed with my normally awesome memory. Anyway, that mix up was just he beginning but I did learn that the people camped out at Hall H had been there since 6 a.m. Tuesday morning…for Twilight. Yes that’s right they were waiting for the The Twilight Saga: New Moon panel that’s today at 1:45 pm. Not Star Wars, but Twilight. I like the Twilight series as much as the next girl but I’m not going to camp out in the sun for two days hoping to see Robert Pattinson who most likely can’t attend because of a scheduling conflict. It’s on this side of ridiculous.
Anyway, once I did figure out where I was supposed to be, I couldn’t get back into the building. Learn from my mistake. Do not leave the building once you get your badge unless it’s absolutely necessary! I was bounced back and forth between doors so many times I wanted to strangle someone. I finally snuck in at D Hall, managed to find my way to Ballroom 20 where I met two fellow attendees, a father and son from Ohio. The family that cons together, stays together! I confirmed it was the line for Ballroom 20 with one of the red shirts (not Star Trek red shirts but security, and they are just as clueless and expendable I found out). Well, we ended up getting shuttled down to the show floor at 6 p.m. like cattle with no hope of escaping the corral. Finally, resolved as we were to see the pilots, the three of us trekked back up to Ballroom 20 and managed to get seats. The place was nearly empty, I assume it was because everyone else was sent to the show floor like we were–but we were faster and more wily!
Whew! So I got to see all three previews after all. I was exhausted but it was worth it. Well, it was for two of them anyway.
I didn’t really know what to expect with “Human Target” but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. There was good action, some great one-liners and a terrific guest star in the form of Battlestar Galactica’s Tricia Helfer. Mark Valley was likable as the death defying security consultant with a sense of humor. It was great to see Chi McBride from Pushing Daisies–he’s always great–and to top it off Jackie Earle Haley from Watchmen was awesome. His character was a sort of information gathering genius that was off his meds and a little scary, but that charming, dry humor kind of scary you can respect. Danny Glover had a nice cameo too. The show will be a mid-season replacement so I’ll let you know when it will air.
“V” was great too. They completely reimagined the characters which I think was a good idea. I have a special place in my heart for the characters from the original, which got in the way of my getting on the Battlestar Galactica bandwagon for awhile. The characters were compelling and I thought every actor did a great job. Kudos to Morena Baccarin, Joel Gretsch and Elizabeth Mitchell, and Alan Tudyk for outstanding performances. The pilot left me wanting more, which means it did the job it was meant to do. On top of that, with modern special effects, the show has lost the cheesy feel of the 80s version. You should definitely check it out. I’ll let you know when ABC will start airing the show.
Last and definitely least was ”The Vampire Diaries” which will premiere on the CW this fall. The show started out strong but it went downhill after the opening sequence. I was actually bored. There were vampires and I was bored–make note of that! The only good thing was Ian Somerhalder and he didn’t appear until the last Act. I’ll watch the second episode when it airs for Ian’s sake but I’m not sold on the show. Sorry Warner Bros., but this probably won’t bring in the 18-40 demographic.
I do want to thank Warner Bros. for giving us the opportunity to see their new shows at the convention. It’s nice to get a head start so I can steer my fellow genre watchers in the right direction.
No photos yet except one that I took on my iPhone of a poster to promote True Blood:

Talk to you soon!
